ESA PHI-LAB NETHERLANDS

Accelerating space-powered innovation for a safe and resilient society.

We fund and support the commercialisation of downstream research into impactful solutions using space data and technologies.

Turn Your Research into Real Impact

ESA Phi-Lab Netherlands is more than just a funding programme. It is a launchpad for turning advanced research into commercially viable, space-enabled solutions.

Based at NL Space Campus in Noordwijk, right next to ESA ESTEC, we are part of the ESA Phi-lab NET — a European innovation network that connects science, technology, and markets through applied research.

We welcome bold, practical ideas that apply space data or technology. Our thematic priorities are:

  • Earth Observation
  • Positioning, Navigation and Timing
  • Secure Laser Satellite Communication
  • Cross-cutting capabilities that support these domains

Join an upcoming info session to ask your questions, gain insights, and better understand how it all works.

Researchers and Engineers

You have developed a promising algorithm, tool, or prototype and want to bring it into the real world. Team up with a company and a first user to pilot it.

Startups and Companies

You are developing a space-powered product or service but need strong research to make it viable. Partner with researchers and users to demonstrate value.

Public Sector and End User

You face a pressing challenge, such as climate risk or energy transition, and see potential in space data. Collaborate with researchers and innovators to explore solutions.

Do Not Have a Team Yet?

That is not a problem. We support consortium matchmaking to help you connect with research, business, and public-sector partners. Start with your idea — we will help shape the rest.

Start Smart with the Idea Outline

Not sure if your idea fits? Submit a short Idea Outline by 12 September 2025 — no need to prepare a full proposal right away.

By submitting an Idea Outline you will:
